ROADS FUND ADMINISTRATION PARTNERS FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS – MK200BILLION FINANCING FACILITY EARMARKED FOR REHABILITATION OF GOLOMOTI – MONKEYBAY TURN-OFF ROAD<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, 15 July 2026, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Honourable Jappie Mhango presided over the Lot 2 official ground-breaking ceremony, for Golomoti-Monkeybay Turn -Off Road project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony was held at Katsinya village in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech the minister mentioned that \u201cthis road is one of most important roads in the country as it supports key sectors of tourism, fishing and agriculture\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister thanked the Roads Fund Administration for mobilising resources from the financial institutions for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also thanked the National Bank of Malawi for providing the resources for the construction of the road. \u201cWe hope this is the beginning of a good working relationship between the Government and the National Bank.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on behalf of the Roads Authority Board Chairperson, Engineer Newton Kambala, said that, \u201cto signify the importance of the road, the design and construction of the road has taken into consideration the construction of a new bridge across Bwanje river, that will be more resilient to the shocks of flooding and other impacts of climate changes\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, the National Bank of Malawi, Board Chairperson, Dr. Grant Kabango said that, \u201cwe are proud to stand alongside the Government of Malawi, the Roads Fund Administration, the Roads<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authority and all stakeholders in supporting infrastructure development that has a direct and lasting impact on people’s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chairperson further indicated that, \u201cour decision to provide the Mk100billion financing facility to the Roads Fund Administration, reflects our belief that banking must go beyond accepting deposits and providing loans. Banking should enable progress. It should unlock opportunity. It should contribute meaningfully to national transformation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The RFA has mobilized a total of Mk200billion financing facility, Mk100billion from FDH Plc and Mk100billion from National Bank plc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facility has a seven-year repayment period using proceeds from fuel levy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is for the rehabilitation of the M10 road section from Monkeybay Turn-off to Golomoti with a total length of 58.4km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works have been divided into two lots; Monkeybay Turn-off to Chantulo (30km) being Lot 1 and Chantulo to Golomoti (28.4km) Lot 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n
