The Roads Fund Administration (RFA) has commended Mzuzu City Council for constructing quality roads. This call was made by the Roads Fund Administration Board Chairperson, Mr. Matthews Chikankheni on Friday, 19 August 2022 when the RFA Directors toured a number of city roads under construction.
The board chairperson emphasized the need for the councils to construct modern roads which must be of high technical specifications with asphalt surfacing and proper drainage with service ducts provided in advance. Let us be innovative in our road designs and ensure that we minimize and avoid unnecessary cutting of roads to provide service lines such as water, telecommunication, electricity and sewer lines.
Mzuzu city council is one of the beneficiaries of the Special City Roads Programme financed by the RFA. Since the programme started in 2016 the RFA has financed the four city councils of Zomba, Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu to the tune of K60billion for road rehabilitation and provision of street lighting.
According to Mzuzu City Council, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gomegzani Nyasulu they have received over K11billion from RFA since the programme started. We commend the RFA and Government for the support in road construction.
Mr. Nyasulu further requested for additional financing for the dualization of the M1 road from ADMARC to Mzuzu University to assist in decongestion of the road.
