On Thursday 27 April 2023, the Roads Fund Administration donated 160desks to Kalinyeke Full Primary School. The RFA Director of Finance, Mr. Alexander Makhwatha presented the desks amounting to MK17.5million to the school.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Mr Makhwatha said “the RFA is responding to address one of the most pressing need in attaining quality education. We identified the need after a consultative meeting with the school management. We received a number of needs that the school required support amongst the needs the school raised were the maintenance of teachers houses, installation of electricity and procurement of school learning materials”.
“The RFA thought of responding towards the procurement of desks having noted the critical shortage of desks at the school with most learners sitting on the floor which is not conducive to learning especially for the girl child.
“We are very optimistic that the desks will go a long way to improve quality of education for all learners. We at the RFA feel obliged to complement government effort in providing quality education and we felt that we should utilize some of the funds under the corporate social responsibility budget to procure the 160desks which we have just donated today” said Mr Makhwatha.
He urged the learners to take good care of the desks as they are good for their education and avoid vandalism as this would negatively affect themselves.
In his response, the Headmistress Mrs. Clara Thombozi thanked the RFA for timely responding to the school needs.
“We are very excited and very thankful to the RFA for the donation, the school had only 120desks against an enrollment of over 1,000 leaners. The 160desks will help us increase the number of pupils accessing their education in an improved environment. This will surely assist us achieve a very good pass rate and Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination selection rate”, Mrs. Clara Thombozi said.
In his speech the Chairman of the School Management Committee, Mr. Edson Kalemera thanked the RFA for the timely donation. However, he made further appeal for more support to the school development requirements. “We are in dire need of provision of accommodation to our teachers. The school management committee started to rehabilitate some teacher houses which we are yet to complete once resources are available.”
The donation made to Kalinyeke is part of the RFA Corporate Social Responsibility planned in the ending financial year 2023. The RFA plan to donate some learning materials to Msiyaludzu FP School in Ntcheu which is within the Chingeni Toll Plaza catchment area.
